jakob neb design: car mural think outside the parking box competition shortlisted revealed

car – mural by jakob neb design from germany is one of the 66 shortlisted entries from our recent designboom competition ‘think outside the parking box’ in collaboration with nissan.

jakob’s idea plays with the urban, tough aspect of the qashqai. seemingly random pillars are sticking out of a wall, able to cradle a cars wheel. a computer calculates the space in between the pillars and arranges the cars accordingly. since the wheelbases of cars differ only marginal in their segments and the pillars are wide enough for a range of sizes, the structure can hold a good cross-section of cars and can compete with other garages. it has an optimal use of space and creates a sculpture of cars in an urban surrounding.

  • Nice sculpture or exhibition space but do not solve the parking space problems

    d says:
  • Saves space, but we’ll be forced to look at car bottoms. Upper cars will drop dirt on lower ones. Apart from that, nice idea. Bravo!

    Nick says:
  • I think he’s thinking INSIDE the box, by cramming a bunch of cars into one… well inside a square.

I hope they build one here in LA

    hober says:
  • the wheel span varies between models of cars …

    beep says:
  • All the revealed ones suddenly seem so good, seriously did all the “ads” posters from the result came from a bunch of 6 years olds. Note that im being reli nice calling them 6 yrs old. Many of them dont deserved to be shortlisted, they should go buy and read “photoshop for dummies” first.

    Wow... says:
