painted entirely white, this prague wine bar recalls a vintage artist studio

jan plecháč and henry wielgus complete ‘dvojka,’ a small wine bar in letná, prague. the interior was designed for richard preisler, with whom the team had worked for a decade. over time, the duo came to realize that this project had been a long-term dream of his, and with the inception of the project aimed to develop the interior to be expressive of his personality as they see it.

the team comments:we’d come up with several designs but kept saying to ourselves that it still wasn’t ‘richard’ enough. then honza came up with a photo of a scruffy old iphone, which became a bit of a template for dvojka. contemporary and modern on the one hand, a little punk and vintage with an artistic vibe on the other. that’s because richard himself, besides running an art gallery, comes from an artistic background.’

in the development of dvojka, designers jan plecháč and henry wielgus further aimed to create a pleasant and relaxing space. this is reflected in the choice of furniture, lighting and flooring. old workbenches and stools together with several refrigerators were painted entirely white. along with white walls, the space maintains a unified look, enhancing the play of light and shadow. white color is splattered across the poured-in-place flooring, suggestive of an artist’s studio.

the designers continue: ‘there is a neon number two on the wall in the colour of red wine — a bit of a clue what the bar is all about. one could say it’s utter simplicity — a place where everything comes together to become a single whole.’
