for milan design week 2011, italian lighting company foscarini presented an multimedia installation designed by architect ferruccio laviani, in which 15 new foscarini products designed in partnership with 13 international designers were on show. among these was ‘solar’ by french designer jean marie massaud.

the rotationally moulded polyethylene hemisphere for foscarini offers a light which also functions as a table. by adding lighting functionality to a furniture piece already commonly the gathering point of a room, massaud’s design not only expands the functionality of the objects, but also encourages increased conversation and interaction.
