jello lamp freezes the soft wobble of gelatin desserts into 3D printed sculptural table light
MAJU transforms the fleeting forms of jello and balloon sculptures into a sculptural table light with softly scalloped, translucent surfaces produced through plant-based 3D printing.
Ephemeral pleasures made permanent with MAJU’s Jello Lamp
Designed by Singapore- and California-based studio MAJU, the Jello Lamp explores how temporary, everyday forms can be translated into a lasting object. Inspired by the soft wobble of gelatin desserts and the inflated curves of balloon sculptures, the 3D printed table lamp combines sculptural geometry with plant-based materials to reinterpret fleeting moments through functional lighting.
MAJU introduces the Jello Lamp, a sculptural table light developed around the idea of translating temporary forms into permanent objects. Designer Hyu Lim looked to familiar sources of everyday softness, including the buoyancy of balloon animals and the movement of a spoonful of jello, to inform a design that preserves these qualities in a durable, illuminated object.

Curves and scalloped contours build Jello Lamp’s silhouette
The lamp’s form is defined by generous, rounded volumes and softly scalloped edges that recall both balloon sculptures and molded desserts. The result, developed by studio MAJU’s designer Hyu Lim, balances playful familiarity with a refined sculptural presence. A translucent shade diffuses the light source into a warm glow, transforming the lamp into an illuminated object where function and form are closely integrated.

Jello lamp is 3D printed to order in plant-based material
Each Jello Lamp is 3D printed to order in MAJU’s workshops in California and Singapore using plant-based, biodegradable PLA. This production method reduces inventory requirements and minimizes material waste. The lamp is designed as a modular system, allowing shades and bases to be replaced or upgraded over time, while the base incorporates an integrated cord organizer for cable management.
Measuring 9.5 × 9.5 × 12.25 inches and weighing approximately half a pound, the lamp uses a low-consumption 2.9W bulb with a warm 2700K color temperature. The Jello Lamp forms part of MAJU’s broader collection of contemporary home objects, produced entirely from plant-based materials and informed by a combination of Eastern and Western design influences.
