revealing four distinct types of mirrors, the halfhalf round series by korean designer jinsik kim explores different potentials of stone and metal when combined together. these latest designs are part of the halfhalf furniture collection, characterized by the concepts of duality and contrast.

apart from experimenting with materials in terms of furniture design, jinsik kim has also considered the impact of mirrors in the world of photography. more specifically, when set within a natural landscape, those reflective surfaces create new impressions of daylight, shadows and shapes. kim has explored such potentials within a forest where he has laid out his halfhalf round series. as a result, the distorted image of the landscape on the mirror’s metal wing has offered the strongest visual effect of nature crossing over the artificial realm. on the other hand, the metallic and marbled finishes of the geometric designs present yet again a strong opposition — this time between the natural and man-made.

by using simple geometric shapes, the designs shift between standard mirrors and sculptural objects with a clear distinction between metal and stone. one approach adopted by kim is an industrial method of crossing a heavy stone over a bent stainless steel, resulting in a recognizable furniture with artistic quality and material richness.
