Teixeira Design Studio’s void chair fuses sculpture & furniture

Designed by João Teixeira of Teixeira Design Studio, the Void lounge chair is a sculptural furniture object that embraces an origami-inspired approach. Crafted from plywood, the chair expresses a smooth form that gently wraps around itself to form the seat, backrest, two legs, and most notable feature — two discreet side pockets. Tucked into the void between the legs, these pockets allow users to easily slide in and store their books and magazines.

the volumetric design draws on the intricacies of origami

Teixeira Design Studio specializes in crafting multifunctional contemporary furniture pieces with unique design solutions for enhanced user experience. For the Void chair, the Portuguese studio fuses the functionality of a seat with a coffee table or bookshelf with a sleek finish. Plywood has been utilized to add volumetrics and create a continuous and singular shape, maintaining a gentle flow that closes any gaps between elements. Its sculptural finish discreetly integrates its versatile functionality with simplicity, while making it an adaptable addition to various interior settings — whether placed in libraries, waiting areas, or bedrooms.
