THE TERRA CARTA SEAL RECOGNIZES COMPANIES THAT DEMONSTRATE MARKET-CHANGING INNOVATION

sir jony ive and his creative team at LoveFrom have designed the terra carta and the terra carta seal as part of the prince of wales’ sustainable markets initiative (SMI). the terra carta seal recognizes companies that demonstrate market-changing innovation that will help ‘set our planet on a fundamentally more sustainable trajectory.’ the award is being given to just 45 companies in the world that have distinguished themselves as being leaders in sustainability innovation.

the design of the terra carta seal features a new typeface developed by the team at LoveFrom, and the coronet of HRH the prince of wales.

THE TERRA CARTA SEAL BY JONY IVE & LOVEFROM FOCUSES ON SACRED FORMS

for the terra carta seal, jony ive and LoveFrom worked closely with HRH the prince of wales, focusing the design on sacred forms. natural references include oak leaves, fern, magnolia, honeybees, swallows, and the monarch butterfly, entwined with the typography.

the chosen elements aim to reinforce a sense of harmony and fertility, allowing flora and fauna to gently take control in a vibrant celebration of nature. the production has been in handmade paper made from 100% traceable and sustainable cotton.

‘with respect for both the historic resonance of the terra carta and for the environment, we have used modest, natural materials and celebrated craftsmanship with a delicate, illustrated design,’ said jony ive. ‘this feels a sensitive and sincere commemoration for those who have committed to the aims of the terra carta, and we are so very grateful to be able to contribute to such an important and impactful initiative.’

launched in january 2021, the terra carta provides a practical roadmap for acceleration towards an ambitious and sustainable future. the shortlist was announced during the united nations climate change conference, COP26, and in 2022 the winning designs will be chosen and supported in its development.
