@steven
you’re probably right about craftsmanship, it’s not my opinion, but I understand yours. The problem is that craftsman is paid hourly, and I am comparing -for instance- forging cycle with fusion cycle…a metal stool forged by hand should cost very much money. I think that the forging process could take up to 4 hours to complete the seating, then you have to weld it and finish it. One piece in 4/5 hours. I think its price could be about 900£ on the shelf: out of market, in my opinion.
This is only a “marketed” design opinion: if we imagine Newson’s chaise longues we could stop doing these speeches immediately ! 😉
UHHHHHHH forging alluminum is hardly even forging. it’s like hammering butter.
Fiona:
why can’t craft be part of the design process? who said there is no grey area in between? everything nowadays could be considered design.
and I will argue that this method is much more eco friendly than a factory; here the energy is human whereas the energy in the factory is produced by an electrical station which probably burns coal.
why must everything be mass produced? what is wrong with a small production of handmade items? what happens when you know the person who made the object you use everyday? there’s a connection to the objects we use that was lost during the industrial revolution and I applaud Julien Renault for embracing the folk-community type of production.
@ too cold: try wearing pants.
sitting on aluminium means you should go to urologist the next day
I agree.
Visually cool, but the production method is not much eco-friendly, and you can expect to obtain few pieces per day. This is closer to craftsmanship than industrial design, do some of you agree ?
(anyway, visually, it’s really really interesting)
