designer jung-hoon lee’s korean heritge informs his newest office supplies collection ‘mir’. his themed pieces recount historical ‘geobukseon’, or korean warships made back in the 15th century. the designer created two styles of each box, one where with deeper storage space and another more shallow version.

the small size is 170x100x60 mm

the designer got inspired by ancient ‘geobukseon’ meaning ‘turtle ship’, which were unprecedentedly unique and large vessels with notable features. they included a dragon-shaped head at the bow and a fully covered deck with iron spikes to protect against attacks and enemy’s weapons. the ship’s covered area ‘ham’, meaning a type of box in korean, functioned to protect itself and to carry soldiers inside it.

the smooth objects are made of beechwood or maple, and eco-board. the dragon-shaped head is made by a wood craftsman, giving it a classical and antique impression. the intricate accent gives the collection its name, as ‘mir’ was how koreans called dragons in ancient times. the delicate wooden boxes come in different finishes and colors, as well as varying sizes.
