in most sports, athletes need a squeezable bottle that allows for one-handed, fast and precise drinking. but, currently all squeezable bottles are made out of plastic. that means: bad taste, potential health risk and throw away mentality. nowadays, all your equipment is high-tech. you have the best shoes, the best shirt — so why not having the best bottle?

driven by that problem, austrian based sports bottle brand KEEGO set out two years ago to develop a better product. many attempts later, the designer found a suitable material — elastic titanium. even more attempts later, the team found a suitable producer. a manufacturer specialized in producing kicker chamber for CERN and other particle accelerators around the world. last fall, the first bottle was produced as proof-of-concept. currently, a dedicated production system is being built in denmark. the project team has been granted four public funding  in vienna but since the development of hardware involves heavy investment KEEGO is still having difficulties. that’s why they’re looking for backers on its kickstarter campaign starting next week — march 14th.

KEEGO’s design goes hand in hand with its technology. while the squeezability of the bottle is based upon an innovative use of material, the functionality of this material stands and falls with a compatible shape. consequently, the sports bottle is defined by ergonomic, as well as functional and technological requirements. the rounded square-shape and monolithic design gives the surface of the bottle an ideal distribution of tension and pressure, which makes it a lot easier to squeeze. it is also very well suited to the specific material properties and production process. the secret behind KEEGO’s functionality lies within the production process that allows to add an elastic core to a titanium bottle. the key is to accurately control the fusion process in order to modulate the elasticity according to the amount of stress in different parts of the squeeze bottle.
