‘spool chair’ – fire and water

thonet has a place within design history as being the first in the world to mass-produce furniture thanks to its development of the bentwood technique in the 19th century.

japanese design keisuke fujiwara has created ‘spool chair’ to pay homage to the iconic thonet chair. for his design, the thonet (originally no. 14, now 214) chair has been hand-wrapped in approximately 12 km of 12 different colored threads, displaying the meticulous process and power of working by hand. the chair comes in versions of ‘fire’ and ‘water’ which are presented in gradations of reds, oranges and yellows and purples, blues and greys respectively.
