the design by kim hyunhee comprises several translucent matte acrylic parts, that are joined together without the use of glue. ‘white nostalgia’ is instead based on a weaving technique of korean traditional furniture to create a stable, supported structure. in this way, the various members of the come together to shape the final product, ‘just like multiple memories are united to form us’ the designer says.

the rice contained in the piece also serves as a symbolic element; it is contained within the chest, and is visible to the user but blurred and hazy, just like distant memories. the designer has used the rice as a way to visualize nostalgia and old memories, that exist somewhere within our minds, like mirages.
