Korean design and its designers enjoy worldwide renown. From iconic brands like Samsung to visionary creatives like Moon Hoon, and from traditional crafts like Najeonchilgi to design philosophies emphasizing the beauty of white space, the Asian country’s creative influence resonates globally. Much credit for this phenomenon goes to the Korean Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), which once again invites companies to participate in the Global Design Internship (GDI) program 2024. Could your company directly benefit from Korea’s rich design influence? Don’t miss the opportunity to apply now before the March 15, 2024 deadline – here.

The GDI is an internship program funded and supported by the Korean government and the KIDP. This is primarily to provide young, talented Korean designers with invaluable international and cross-cultural working and learning experience at companies outside of Korea.

In 2023, the program realized 100 internships across 59 companies spanning 17 different countries. Once again supported by designboom, KIDP 2024 builds on this success and aims even higher, with a vision of offering more entry-level designers the chance to gain global experience while benefiting international companies.

Companies interested in hosting Korean design interns should operate within the field of design, such as design consultancies, in-house design teams, or start-ups outside Korea. KIDP assists these companies in identifying and matching qualified interns for each role. Internships are expected to last up to five months, concluding in November, 2024.

The GDI program 2024 presents two types of internship options: on-site placements, where the designers stay and work in the company’s region, or virtual internships completed remotely. This gives both company and creative flexibility to fit both their needs. KIDP provides round-trip airfare, insurance, living expenses, visa assistance where necessary, and mentoring sessions for on-site interns. For virtual options, interns are offered a per diem allowance, mentoring sessions, and access to a work space in a shared office.
