paris based designer, claire lavabre, has taken an array of different objects to build the ‘la stanley’ ready made lamp. developed as part of a research project on lights and their kinetic effects – ‘lampade e altre progetti non finiti’ – lavabre created the piece during her one year residency program at villa medici in rome.

the ‘la stanley’ lamp is designed and produced by selecting various manufactured items, then transforming and combining them to create a new object. by collecting and reusing existing items, lavabre uses an assembly work method that could be related to a dadaïste collage. this unusual combination results in a lamp made from a wheel-rim, an aluminium masonry rule, an electrical extension cord, a semi finished glass tube, a cable fastener, lighting components and some motorcycle engine screws. in essence, the design uses minimal objects to create a simple yet functional light.
