LAYER and cat person present a modern lifestyle collection for cats

benjamin hubert of experience design agency LAYER designed a collection of cat furniture for new york-based start-up ‘cat person’. cat person is a new brand committed to strengthening the relationship between cats and their owners. the cat person collection comprises mesa bowl, a modular feeding station, and canopy bed, an adaptable 3-in-1 cat bed. the products are driven by extensive research into the behaviour of both cats and their ‘cat parents’, and are designed aesthetically to blend into the house’s interiors.

designed by benjamin hubert, cat person offers sleek bowls and furniture that are tailor-made to a cat’s anatomy and the modern cat person’s aesthetics. by putting felines and their owners at the center of their research, design, and marketing processes, the brand and products convey the sophisticated relationship with pets. 

the sculptural, softly geometric forms and bright mix and match colours  of the canopy bead have been designed to fit easily into contemporary home interiors, and to be proudly displayed by cat persons in the home. most cats will sleep up to 17 hours each day – with kittens and older cats napping for even longer, so the designers created a versatile sleeping area. there are three options for configuration of the canopy to fit a cat’s mood – whether they want to hide away, feel protected, or lounge openly. studies show that around 35% of pets in the us are owned by millennials so it was important to design cat accessories that reflect their personalities. the canopy bed is available in three different colourways: jungle, tundra, and savanna.

the second product designed by LAYER for cat person is a modular bowl. the mesa bowl is a modular cat feeding station that offers a comfortable setting for cats to feed from, celebrating their uniquely feline character. the rounded bowl, made from durable non-bpa plastic, sits atop a sculptural stand; and a semi-rigid plastic placemat makes it easy to clean the area. the shallow bowl is designed to accommodate cats’ facial profiles so they can eat without agitating their whiskers, a common condition in cats. the feeding station changes as your cat grows – as the bowl can be used directly on the tray for a kitten or on the stand for adult cats. the elegant arrangement of the food bowl and stand takes its design cues from premium homewares, offering an easy-to-clean and durable product that cat persons are proud to display in their homes. 

cat person also delivers cat care essentials – including food, treats and products – that are especially made for the unique needs of cats, and thoughtfully designed for their people. its extensive line of flavorful food and treats have simple and clean ingredients that cats love, with the high-protein nutrients they need. 

benjamin hubert, of LAYER design states, ‘with cat person, we saw an opportunity to disrupt a market underserved by good design with a collection of products to connect with a new generation of cat owners. the collection is based on extensive research into cat and cat owner behaviours to find new insights that have driven innovative features. the resulting collection not only meets the specific needs of domestic cats, but also seamlessly integrates into the home life of owners and offers an opportunity for them to celebrate their feline friends.’
