le mouton noir & co.: flow shelf

‘flow’ by le mouton noir & co.

new york-based firm le mouton noir & co have applied the idea of a ship to ‘flow shelf’, a floating storage unit. the wooden furniture piece is carved from plywood with the side of the material exposed to show the layers. the raised edges keep the items on the shelf from falling off while also referencing the hull of the boat. when boxes and small items are placed upon its surface, ‘flow’ resembles something similar to that of a cargo ship.

le mouton noir & co is one of the design studios participating in the designboom mart new york 2012  happening from the 19th until the 22nd of may at the international contemporary furniture fair (ICFF).

  • It might be improved with a different material, but what a lovely idea.

  • simple, beautiful, practical in its own elegant way!
