residence of a globe-trotting client

in manhattan’s financial district stands david adjaye’s first high-rise building in the united states, where design principals liza curtiss and corey kingston of le whit designed and decorated the residence of a globe-trotting client. with the goal of showcasing the client’s impressive art collection, this interiors concept honors the inherent architectural allure of the david adjaye-designed high rise while also incorporating design elements that offset the stark finishes of the brand-new apartment, accompanied with vintage furnishings to layer in a sense of history alongside the young client’s growing art collection.

a sense of sanctuary into this new home

finding himself confined to the united states due to the pandemic, the client and first-time homeowner brought on le whit shortly after purchasing the residence. their mission was to introduce a sense of sanctuary into his new home, inviting him to – contrary to his ‘before times’ lifestyle – stay and be rooted in it. central to the design schema is the rich, earthy, high-gloss goatskin-covered dining table which engages the accompanying dining chairs and just-as-earthen bunn studio rug, produced by radnor made.

the project also includes furnishings from other independent makers such as a woolen kitchen pendant light from amsterdam-based vilt aan zee, and bespoke kitchen stools from brooklyn-based designer david larsson. also designed by le whit, the custom desk casework called upon brooklyn-based studio stand & build to execute the millwork. a truly collaborative effort, the apartment altogether establishes a unique sense of space within the refined tower, exhibiting brooklyn furnishings and other design works by independent makers to complement the client’s highly personal collection of artworks. color and texture, art and design bring “character” to life: a laid-back apartment, reflective of its owner, against the iconic skyline of fast-moving new york city.
