LEGO celebrates 60th birthday with rebrickulous installation in NYC

attention builders: LEGO gurus at HQ have revealed a 1,200-pound, 10-foot-tall marketing-stunt-meets-monument in new york’s flatiron district. those who follow the way of the brick know the amount of approximate time that went into such a 2 X 4, but for those of you non-builders out there: it’s 133,000 little LEGOS shaped like a giant red LEGO.

the iconic, classic red LEGO that started it all took the shamans in enfield, connecticut about 350 hours to construct (in master-lego-hours: a solid 4). above, you’ll find a time-lapse of the masters at work. the historic, eight-studded unit of endless creativity will be stationed outside the flatiron building through sunday, january 28th. standing beneath its omniscient presence, proud lego builders, creators young and old, may wonder, ‘what will I build next,’ as the usual new york city bees scramble around methodically, fast-walking, and honking horns.
