lievore altherr molina makes outdoor living easy with livit sofa + falcata table for expormim

on the occasion of the 2016 salone del mobile, expormim presents the ‘livit’ sofa and ‘falcata’ table — two novelties by barcelona-based studio lievore altherr molina that are designed to make outdoor living easy.

‘livit’ has been designed to express a ‘timeless mediterranean elegance’

‘livit’ has been conceived to be ‘a welcoming piece with soft cushions buoyed up by a slender aluminium frame, which balances comfort and lightness with the aim of providing blithesome relaxation,’ say lievore altherr molina. childhood memories of taking a siesta in a hammock, and curling up in an old rocking chair on the porch, were the starting points of the sofa’s conceptual development. the result is an outdoor furniture piece that takes on a floating appearance with its thin metal frame supporting a generous seating area, with subtly slanted arms for added comfort. offering a shapely and voluptuous silhouette, ‘livit’ expresses a ‘timeless mediterranean elegance’.

‘falcata’ expresses a pure aesthetic and harmonious structure

on the other hand, the ‘falcata’ table references the far east, projecting a sinuous silhouette of legs made from injected aluminium that flows smoothly — just like the distinctive black ink strokes of shodō (japanese calligraphy); or evoking the neck of a crane or waving stems of reed beds. providing a balance between simplicity and delicateness, each of the design’s specific elements have been carefully studied in order to project a pure aesthetic and harmonious structure, in which however large it is (it can measure up to 3 metres long), still offers a substantially light feeling.

the main characteristic of ‘falcata’ is its legs which suggest a subtle play on perspective. despite the variety of sizes, shapes and finishes, their proportion remains unaltered, and are measurements that can be found in the accurate fusion of tradition and modernity, expressed through a language that has been nurtured from collective memory and timelessness.
