exploring themes of scale, intimacy, memory and home, the ‘DIY concrete house ring kit’ by australian architect linda bennett allows one to make their own jewelry piece. reducing the large scale of most architectural projects, the small house ring is more tangible and accessible to make – it comes complete with step-by-step instructions on how to prepare, cast and finish the sculptural item. cast within an easy to use silicone mould system, the kit contains 16 individual components that were specifically designed and manufactured with infinite color and texture possibilities. the structure is made from two primary elements, a high quality silver inner with a system of internal rods that holds the concrete composite surrounding it in place. grounded within the architecture and construction industry, the design brings together materials, knowledge and technologies and comes in either a saltbox or gable roof, offering a unisex style piece.

questioning the meaning of ownership, not as a commodity, but rather, as personal authorship. the ring raises associative memories of place and individual’s interpretations of ‘home’, taking on its own story as it fades, cracks and chips to create its own sense of history.
