lisa sacco presents haptic console

From a draped leather chair to a disappearing cotton rag and graphite table, Lisa Sacco’s furniture objects capture the raw essence of materiality and seek to reconnect us with the natural world. With Haptic Console, the multi-disciplinary designer has taken a single board of quarter-sawn white oak plank cut into thirds and employed CNC technology to create an interactive desktop. Its top surface bears a distinct corrugated texture, adorned with glass accessories that are carefully blown to match the curved surface, inviting an engaging tactile experience.

Lisa Sacco conceives the Haptic Console as a site where the distilled poetics of spontaneous composition and the intrinsic energy of materials converge. The piece draws inspiration from the rhythmic and patinated beauty of corrugated sheet metal, rejoining its wooden components into an uninterrupted waterfall console. The blown glass and oak accessories glide along this surface, enhancing the overall sensory experience.

Specializing in furniture and sensory object design, Lisa Sacco has embraced an experimental approach which aims to foster material engagement while achieving a harmonious balance between function and aesthetics. Alongside designers Samuel Aguirre, Jesse Groom, Yuxuan Huang, and Felicia Neuhof from the Rhode Island School of Design, Sacco showcased the console at their collective exhibition, Momentum, bringing together objects that embody a dynamic approach to materiality. The collection explores novel typographies in furniture, considerations of environmental impact, and creative processes.
