‘For me, it’s never about replicating history, but about understanding what makes something feel timeless. If you work with honest materials and keep the design refined and honest, you can create an iconic piece even though it is newly produced. If those fundamentals are right, a new design can carry the same presence as something centuries old,’ explains Liza Laserow Berglund, in our interview series with Most Studios.

Launched in 2016, Nordic Knots’ visual identity is rooted in Berglund’s early immersion in high-end antiques and historic proportions, which instilled an instinctual understanding of balance, patina, and lasting materials. The brand was born from a creative synergy between the co-founders Liza and Fabian Berglund, who have forged an identity that actively resists the accelerated pace of modern consumption. By pairing a sober color palette inspired by historical, understated tones with honest materials that grow more beautiful with age, the brand elevates the rug from a functional utility to a defining structural element of modern interiors, shaping a strict interior design language where textiles serve as the atmospheric foundation of a home.

‘We believed that rugs and textiles, designed with longevity in mind, could help people build more thoughtful and personal spaces,’ Liza adds. ‘A rug is a foundation – it sets the tone of the room and anchors everything else but it needs to complement and not take over. At the same time, when you isolate it, it should still feel like an object in its own right, with a clear design language.’

‘Living in New York gave me a new perspective on what home means. For many people, it felt like a place to pass through rather than a place to truly invest in. In contrast, Scandinavians have a deeply rooted culture of creating homes that are cared for, nurtured, and built over time,’ Liza says.
