’round & round’ bench by louis lim

new york-based designer louis lim has integrated a hidden storage unit into a circular bench for ’round&round’. the wooden furniture piece is in the form of a semicircle, as the solid wooden boards conceal a continuous triangular drawer. when one side is pushed, the opposite end reveals the central hollow parts. the hidden compartment rotates all around, showing one section at a time, until it is once again swallowed by the outer surface. a recent graduate of cooper union, louis lim’s focus is largely sculpture and furniture. he has been assistant to takeshi miyakawa  for five years now and is currently doing custom millwork and installation with studio a+i.

’round&round’ was showcased at wanted design at 12 x 12, an exhibition showing the works of twelve furniture designers using the reclaimed lumber of twelve demolished buildings. the pieces will be auctioned off to benefit brooklyn woods, a wood shop job training  and eduction centre in NYC.
