having already created the ‘elysia’ chair, ‘stanley’ sofa and ‘laurel’ room tables in 2014, luca nichetto expands his furniture pieces for de la espada with a complete family of seven products under his own self-named brand. debuting at maison&objet 2015 in paris, ‘nichetto’ presents the additions of the ‘bergère ‘blanche’ armchair, ‘dubois’ bed, ‘harold’ writing desk, ‘marlon’ dining table’, ‘vivien’ dining chair, modular ‘mitch’ cabinet and ‘stella’ pillows in their element — an installation of a warm domestic setting subdivided into living, dining and bedroom quarters.

‘nichetto’ draws its formal references from the great american interior designers of the 1950s, italian postmodernism movement and scandinavian sensibilities, resulting in a collection that expresses a classic aesthetic, with a particular attention to detail. this is displayed in the stitching of the upholstered elements, executed in partnership with atelier AW bauer & co. of stockholm (historical tailors), as seen for example in the wooden toggles used as fasteners for the cushioning of the ‘elysia’ armchair.

this artisanal quality that nichetto exudes in his brand, is further enhanced by other collaborations with yulia yadryshnikova, responsible for designing the ‘stella’ pillows in different shapes and fabrics to be coordinated with larger pieces from the collection such as the bed, armchair and sofa. but, the three color palettes which define ‘nichetto’ can be attributed to photographer massimo gardone and his ‘herbarium’ project — an extensive research he conducted on natural elements such as flowers and leaves. luca nichetto pulls the natural tonalities, warm, cool, and neutral seen in gardone’s images, and applies these hues to the textiles and material combinations to ‘nichetto’ to enrich the collection.

'the 'dubois' bed system is crafted in premium solid hardwood and fabrics. its wraparound headboard provides privacy, while the exposed timber frame and generous expanse of upholstery exhibits the quality of materials and the craftsmanship put into the piece. it is available with a low or tall headboard, with optional bedside tables. the tall headboard version can be integrated with a side bench.

'laurel' coffee table

'laurel' side tables are composed of two pure geometric shapes -- a cone and cylinder -- that intersect to create two wide and functional surfaces that are distributed at different levels. the hand-polished lacquer cone built from timber, sandwiched with alternating grain direction, appears to balance effortlessly upon the lower cylindrical base that is made from marble.
