luceplan expands the Koinè lighting family designed by mandalaki

Luceplan extends the Koinè lighting suspensions family designed by Mandalaki Studio- and there’s more than meets the eye. The heart of the project lies in the lighting mechanism inside, integrated within the reflector’s cap, featuring a specifically created mineral lens that emits the purest, most homogenous light. For 2022, the experience is elevated as Koinè grows with a sound-absorbing version that pairs the harmonious experience with acoustic comfort. Also extended with red, white, and blue colors, Luceplan finds the ideal balance between technology, elegance and purity of form.

Product and consulting design firm Mandalaki was founded in 2012 by Enrico De Lotto, George Kolliopoulos and Giovanni Senin, in Milan, Italy. Joined a year later by Davide Giovannardi, the team explores the intersection between design and technology following an approach between industrial and artisanal processes. With consistency towards technical aesthetic, the Studio turns Koinè into a series of lamps for Luceplan, featuring an acoustic version, additional colors and sizes for the existing suspension model, as well as the floor and table versions.

Koinè’s great technology lies hidden in the cone cap

Koinè’s great technology lies inside the ‘hat’. The lighting mechanism involves a specific, custom-designed mineral lens that permits the beam to be transmitted homogeneously. The precision of the direction of the source is crucial to guarantee a strong, but also comfortable experience. When diffused through the conical reflector, the light is clearly defined, creating a sharp border with the shade.

luceplan pairs lighting comfort with acoustics, using sustainable materials

Along its high technological and luminous performance, Koinè offers a sound-absorbing version. The decorative cone becomes a cap in 60% recycled felt, an effective aesthetic touch that permits improvement of acoustic comfort in spaces by reducing the resonance of sound waves. Inside, an aluminum portion completes the surface and contributes to support the felt, while also dissipating heat from the light source.

The latest additions feature the table version that preserves the original structure in aluminum and the characteristic mineral lens, and the floor model – reaching a height of 140 cm with a reach of 110 cm – ideal as an indoor solution. In addition to new color versions, the family is also set to include the mini version of the suspension lamp with a 14-cm aluminum diffuser in which to insert the light source. Its small compact body permits creation of various compositions, for personalization of spaces in an original, creative way.
