Lightweight and high-performance

The apparel brand lululemon has fashioned Lightweight Performance Hijab and Scarf-Style Hijab into its growing collection of sportswear, accessories, and equipment. The lightweight hijab has a pinless, over-the-head design that stays put while the user works out and fits well under a shirt. For the scarf hijab, it has enough length and grit to be transformed into whatever shape suits the user best, whether they want to tie, tuck, or twist it is up on them. Designed for everyday sports activities such as running and training, the hijab pieces enjoy lululemon’s Lightweight Luxtreme fabric that is sweat-wicking and quick-drying and can be stretched in multiple ways. The brand also added Lycra fiber to add to the material’s elasticity and turns its shape retentive.

Users have commented on the brand’s new releases, complimenting the brand and even asking if the team would produce the hijabs in other colors such as white opal, pink clay, and neutral or nude colors. One comment says that their non-Muslim friend bought it for them as a gift, eliciting a surprise from them. ‘I was so shocked that this type of thing was even designed! It fits like a glove and feels super comfortable. This is unlike any hijab I have worn during my workouts, and I am so glad this was designed. It is just perfect!’ they write.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action

Lululemon has committed itself to social impact, sharing that having had many  real and impactful  conversations with its underrepresented  employees and its expanding communities,  it heard loud and clear  that  it needed to change its behaviors  within its own system  to  support change not just through words but by actions. The brand’s CEO Calvin McDonald, together with its Senior Leadership Team, has made the commitment to stand up and fund Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA) within lululemon to make sure that the brand stays engaged and acts in allyship  with its commitment to anti-racism. ‘This is by no means the last step. It is  just the start,’ the brand writes.

To follow through with these commitments, the brand published its aims online which include its goals to recruit a Head of Global Diversity Equity and Inclusion; internally invest an additional  five million USD per year for IDEA; create a  global advisory committee  comprising of lululemon  ambassadors across the globe; deliver anti-racism and anti-discrimination training for all employees; require diverse pools of candidates be interviewed for each role within lululemon; and provide an additional  three  million dollars to its social impact  program - Here to Be – to disrupt  inequity  in  wellbeing  through movement, mindfulness,  and activism.

Social Impact Center

Based on lululemon’s Social Impact Center, the brand believes everyone has the right to be well, and that the path to wellbeing is possible when tools, support, and resources are accessible to all. ‘However, too often around the world, barriers persist, making access far too difficult for far too many people. This is especially true for those experiencing disproportionate rates of stress and trauma,’ the brand writes. The lululemon Center for Social Impact sets out to make resources to improve one’s wellbeing accessible.

It aims to leverage its expertise, resources, and communities to invest in and advocate for the wellbeing of those most impacted by systemic inequity around the world, guided by the brand’s goal of positively impacting 10 million people by 2025. The key focus areas for the lululemon Center for Social Impact include Community and Global Wellbeing, Maker Wellbeing, and Frontline Wellbeing, as well as Research and Advocacy. Some of the global initiatives the brand supports include the Girls Support Alliance, a program of the Obama Foundation that empowers adolescent girls around the world through education, and The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) young people.
