MAD’s Ma Yansong with FENDI for FW24 peekaboo and sneakers

For the FENDI FW24 menswear show in Milan, Ma Yansong of MAD Architects unveiled his iteration of the Peekaboo bag and the Maison’s sneakers using visual cues that recall his fluid style in architecture. Under the creative direction of Silvia Venturini Fendi, Ma Yansong designed the Peekaboo ISeeU Soft bags with lacquered aluminum outlines on the facade and handles. They come in soft gray with a spurt of bright yellow and a black version that plays with the concept of bumps as the curved lines jut out of the fabric.

The Peekaboo ISeeU Soft collection by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects features lacquered aluminum outlines on the facade and handles too, giving it a glistening effect from the get-go. Completing the accessories, his design for FENDI’s FW24 menswear also includes pairs of sneakers that share the same color palette as his Peekaboo collection. These futuristic slip-on sneakers spotlight an injected organic sole and a two-tone upper with bubble details and metallic accents, while the low-profile and flat silhouette provides an ergonomic alternative to the reinterpreted classics of the season.

Silhouettes and contours recalling MAD’s architecture

The collaboration between FENDI and Ma Yansong of MAD Architects for the FW24 show follows the initiatives carried out by the Maison on partnerships that bring together the worlds of fashion and architecture. Before Ma Yansong stepped in for the fashion designs, Kengo Kuma had also reinterpreted some of FENDI’s collection using traditional washi paper, woven bamboo, birch bark, and Tuscan olive wood. His style of ancient Japanese craftsmanship and usage of raw natural materials materialized into bags and sneakers for FENDI’s SS24 menswear.

For the FW24 menswear show, Silvia Venturini FENDI takes FENDI to vast open spaces and the dialogue between tradition and technology, all of which resonate with Ma Yansong’s works and architecture at MAD Architects. The runway’s theme emerges as ‘the hybrid nature of the silhouette, and its manifold meanings remain a constant question in the world of menswear, to which FENDI responds in ways that transcend and surprise.’ No wonder Ma Yansong of MAD Architects’ Peekaboo ISeeU Soft design embodies the nature of contours. They not only surface in his architectural designs but also in his FENDI collection of Peekaboo and everyday sneakers.
