marcel wanders: the wattcher

the wattcher is a product that displays the electricity consumption in the home allowing you to monitor and curb energy use. marcel wanders designed the piece with the thinking that it could become ‘the heart of the home’.

‘the design is very clean and has urgency in pointing out your energy consumption. wattcher is more than just a product: it is a strategy that stimulates awareness.’

in march dutch energy company eneco promoted the use of the wattcher with the ‘battle of the watt’ initiative. in schools and student’s homes throughout the netherlands participants were encouraged to save energy for the contest. those who consumed the least energy won various prizes.

  • seen the concept so many times…its about time i see one that acutally works. Just wish that the idea was original…
