seeking for a compromise between minimalism, functionality and brutalist metal design, adam štok and monika kozderková of studio vono have created ‘marshmallow’, a ping pong table meant as a functional freestanding sculpture. the table has been conceived as a dominant element for interiors, which emphasizes a centerpiece in formal and public spaces with unity, conversation, relaxation, and play.

the technology of flattening the metal pipes with the help of a hydraulic press allowed the designers to work with the structure in a different way — this was a long process of trial, measurement, and molding of the form into its final product appearance. the marshmallow ping pong table is painted in black color and stands on bent metal pipes, which look very light, as if they were made of inflated balloons.

‘if you hold a marshmallow between your fingers and press it, you’ll see how quickly and easily a hydraulic press flattens metal,’ the designers explain the name of the piece. ‘there is such force emitted onto the surface that you suddenly feel as if a piece of metal became paper.’
