at maison et objet 2014, french designer matali crasset presents the ‘territoire’ project, two geometrical-shaped trays in different sizes and colors that create a play of color and composition. conceived to complement part of the ‘essentiel de pâtisserie’ collection by matali crasset and chef pierre hermé for alessi – a double-void mixing bowl, spatula, cake platters and expandable two-part whisk – the ‘territoire’ and ‘territoire intime’ dishes can be showcased on their own or paired together to create a vibrant combination of lines and geometric surfaces. in addition to designing a pair of dishes, crasset also created a variety of stop-motion animations for alessi’s spring/summer 2014 line with the ‘territoire’ and ‘territoire intime’ plates.

‘territoire’, the larger of the bunch, forms the shape of an irregular hexagon, available in both polished 18/10 stainless steel and sand-colored steel. the smaller ‘territoire intime,’ features a pentagonal surface, and like the ‘territoire’ is available in polished 18/10 stainless steel, and terracotta-colored steel.

the whisk is a multi-functional tool constructed with elastic wires and a corolla equipped with rigid wires wrapped in silicone. the flexibility of the elastic wires is employed for light operations, such as beating egg whites. the corolla is used for thicker blends such as creams and pastes. the two-function whisk is made from 18/10 stainless steel and silicone.

the cul-de-poule, a semi-spherical stainless steel container comprised of a round bump which allows the flexibility of mixing both small and large quantities of ingredients. the bump doubles as a handle for ease of grip. the bowl consists of two sections and is also made of 18/10 stainless steel and silicone.

the aim of the ‘cake plate’ is to place emphasis on the baked delicacy; from the circular shapes to the bright color palette, crasset was influenced by concentric circles and the vibrant hues of cakes inherent to pastry making. the plate is made of interposable elements in melamine.

‘la spatola’ by matali crasset for alessi

the ‘spatola’ is the upshot of the fusion of a plastic spoon and a silicone blade. it therefore has two functions: the rigid part serves to mix the ingredients at the beginning, while the soft part allows you to finish a mixture and scrape the container empty. ‘for this particular item the idea was to mingle a spatula with a spoon, hence to bring about mutation rather than evolution,’ says crasset.
