‘rhizome’ by matali crasset for arturo alvarez

‘rhizome’ is a pendant lamp designed by paris-based matali crasset for spanish brand arturo alvarez. made from a single sheet of metal, the lamp’s form draws on that of a rhizomatic composition. following the outline of mobile systems, both the structure and all of its suspended elements are complementary shapes.

a waterfall shape is created, starting from a central spot, with the hanging components branching outwards as a means of defracting light. the source of illumination is protected at the core by a clutter of suspended shapes, in which light is diverted through white panels. the endings of the lamps are colored in either silver or yellow.

‘rhizome’ is on show at milan design week 2011.
