wine is associated with sharing, with moments of pleasure and with the ‘terroir’ (regional soil, climate etc.): the universal appeal of these themes encouraged french designer matali crasset to explore them, with respect to the glass bottle as a vessel serving to contain wine.

as part of her collection ‘in vino veritas’ which is currently on show at the MUDAC, lausanne, crasset has designed ‘tasting memories’, a limited edition a blown glass vessel used for enjoying wine. the edition of 50 pieces are each signed and numbered by crasset.

matali crasset: tasting memories

‘what is wine, but a moment of sharing around the meeting of land, grapes and man. ‘tasting memories’ an object in which to put the moment into a memory and remember the pleasant act of tasting. to know wine is like a succession of meetings, prepared and memorized. each tasting is a stage, in which a new world opens. this is a new dimension of pleasure in life, a bit like returning to intimacy with its affinities testing its limits, as if we went from a third dimension to a fourth dimension.’ – matali crasset
