maurizio galante and tal lancman create whimsical dreamscapes for hermès hong kong stores

designers maurizio galante and tal lancman invite visitors into the hermès stores, with their colorful and mesmerizing window displays. inspired by the brand’s 2019 theme of ‘hermès dream’, the designer duo created joyful, yet contemplative landscapes for the hong kong stores, turning mundane objects such as spoons and pencils into stunning installations.

the duo used everyday objects such as buttons, shoelaces, pencils, and children’s coloring books as handles to open the door into the hermès dreamscapes. the designers created six display windows, a two-level corner show window, and five street windows for the hermès flagship store in hong kong, exploring creativity to arouse the viewer’s imagination.

their strategy of repetition and color creates mesmerizing window displays, reflecting the rich universe of hermès. the magical installations include a landscape entirely comprised of colorful scrapbooks, covering the surfaces, and display products for the road, that allow traveling in style. in another window, the duo challenges the laws of nature, positioning the hermès circus tea set in a juggling act. the delicate porcelain dishes seem to be thrown for a spin.

down the road, buttons, an iconic fashion element, are placed repetitively to create a hypnotic rhythm. the commonplace objects are transformed into a design piece, where they become adrift in a dynamic and vibrant swirl. on another window, reminiscent of children’s coloring books, wooden colored pencils are lined up and the window remains open to endless possibilities and interpretations.

a wall clad in knots references a gentleman who is able to tie the perfect knot in his sleep. the window’s selection of objects speaks not only to the man, but his inner, more curious child. people walking past the street encounter the displays with a sense of discovery and surprise, luring them into each hermès store.
