after finding a creative spark in the traditional structures used for excavating water from underground aquifers, MEJD studio has formed a collection of ‘well lights’. the work specifically observes the principle of the simple wooden handle that assists the winding of the rope to send a bucket down into the abyss. here, the action has been translated into single a bulb whose depth can adjusted within a glass container. in the case of lower positions, the effect becomes a transformation from clear to gradient blue, while in the second variant, it shifts from transparent to sanded matte.

the product was developed within an initiative called ‘loading’, which intends to show two different views of local craftsmanship alongside manufacturers in slovakia and czech republic in central europe through contemporary design. to achieve this goal, MEJD consulted the famous workshop of ajeto. the containers were blown into a lumber mould and then drilled in their upper portion to make way for the mechanism. the parts are made of maple oiled wood combined with brass elements. the socket is turned of brass, which makes it heavier, more stable, and easier to maneuver in a straight vertical line. the textile cable used to suspend the light refers back to the braided strands used in real water wells.
