joining two different types of objects, the ‘twist me!’ bookcase by slovakian designers at MEJD studio is a hybrid piece that combines a bookbinding plough with a metal sheet office rack. the unique shelf was created during the summer workshop ‘lost and found’ organized by CA flowers for slovakia, in cooperation with swiss furniture company VITRA. the designers worked with traditional slovak folklore items in combination with discarded objects from VITRA to create the book-themed piece. the outer side walls feature aluminum bearings that are joined by a wooden nut from the press, that when turned brings the inner wall components into motion. the flexible shelving unit can therefore hold a number of different books within the moving space. the library can be fixed so that when it is pressed together, it can be carried without needing to empty the bookcase.
