international lighting company delta light®, who normally focuses on in-house product development, has recently collaborated with belgian fashion designer tim van steenbergen to produce the hanging ‘metronome’ lamp. the new collection takes the ‘husk’ lamp conceived by manager and designer of the company, paul ameloot last year as its departure point, with van steenbergen offering a new interpretation of the existing design that is influenced by his fashion practice.

‘metronome’ is a multifaceted hanging lamp which plays with light and shadow. van steenbergen has taken the conical shape of ‘husk’, cutting the form into panels as a means of allowing light to filter through the slits at varying intensities. his intention is to allow users to move the panels themselves, altering the brightness emitted according to their needs and desired ambiance.

‘metronome’ is available in two versions: the long model maintains the special iconic shape found at the top of the original ‘husk’ light; while the other variant sees its panels cut straight to the top of the lamp.

the official catwalk of tim van steenbergen’s 2012 summer collection, coincided with the release of the ‘metronome’ light, and featured a special installation of five XXL versions of the pendent lamp, hanging above the runway. in addition, intersecting linear arrangements of the smaller ‘metronome’ models accompanied the five central pieces,  offering an impressive decorative grouping above the catwalk. influences between van steenbergen’s fashion and lighting designs were evident, whereby slits and angles played a key role in both collections.
