adapting the ancient material mimbre de cuenca, a natural fiber similar to wicker or rattan, spanish design company micomoler has created this new furniture collection. despite its lightness the fiber is very strong, but to form the furniture pieces structural support is still needed. the ‘duler’ chair is constructed from a simple continuous frame that makes the legs and back of the seat. the complexity of the weave is combined with these elements to make one object.

‘the idea was to create a single shell of mimbre, woven in a way that allows the seat and the back to be a continuous structure’, says the designer.

the basket ‘thumi’ can be used in several ways has adaptable leg heights so that it can become a stool or a low table. the process of weaving mimbre takes a long time and requires years of experience to perfect the technique. the designs have been crafted by highly skilled artisans in cuenca, an area of spain with a very strong tradition of mimbre work.
