misc-ellany unveils the ORE collection of minimalist stationery
raw concrete and polished brass are sculpted into a simple and pure design.
design studio misc-ellany has recently developed their first material-based and minimalist stationery collection entitled ORE. composed of different table objects, the series was created in the spirit of extracting and refining precious materials from ores — a type of rock containing sufficient elements for economical extraction, like metal. the value of the minerals are contained within ores, out of sight: it is only after rounds of purification that their full potential is revealed.
‘our aim is to bring across this idea of refinement through thoughtful combinations of materials and their rightful proportions… a series of table objects in their simplest form and functionality, without eclipsing the beauty of their raw materials’, explains misc-ellany.

misc-ellany‘s debut collection began with two hand-crafted pieces, tape and pen holders, that showcase a union between two materials — concrete and brass. considered two of the most common and functional table objects, they offer a refined and simple design — where the raw concrete perfectly highlights the beauty of the polished brass parts.

a square edge concrete mass was used to contain and stabilize the tape while using the brass to highlight the insert and cutting tip. this creates a distinct accent that informs the users of its function.

02 pen holder
a nicely seated conical base that offers protection for a pen before its next use, with the right amount of weight to match its function. to ensure that it can fit pens of different widths and tips, a perfectly machined brass cavity was used to hold and glorify the pen. the brass is then inserted into a slightly tapered concrete base for greater stability.
