amsterdam-based mokumono has produced their first bicycle sourced from dutch manufacturing companies and assembled in-house with the help of 3D hubs, a manufacturing service involved in the early stage 3D printing and CNC machining of the company’s first production batch. following a successful kickstarter campaign that allowed for the realization of the delta, the team aims to apply the automation process into mass production and fulfill its ultimate goal of localized production.

borrowing from the automotive industry, mokumono has used a new technique where two aluminum sheets are pressed into form for the bike’s frame, and then laser-welded together. after building the first prototype from cardboard, the company experimented with 3D hubs to create 3D-printed and hand-built versions. the delta bicycle showcases the manufacturing technique using sharp lines to accentuate the points where the two sheets are pressed together. mokumono was awarded the gold award at eurobike 2017 for its innovative approach, and has currently put the delta into production.
