biennale interieur 2016 kortrijk: named ‘wireS#’, the series of delicate and sculptural seating were conceived when muller van severen were invited to create the furniture and lighting for an architectural holiday home south of barcelona. now, the functional sculptures are showcased at this year’s edition of the biennale interieur kortrijk in belgium, and like its unusual name: ‘wireS#’, wire is the material, the ‘s’ references the shape, and the ‘#’ is a jovial allusion to the material used and to a numbering.

the collection has also been exhibited at valerie traan gallery, with muller van severen’s experimentation with wire net giving the pieces its distinctive character. available in four colors and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use; they embody a delicate nature. the different forms either balance off the ground or lay flat, and the transparency of the wire allowing them to blend into its surroundings.

‘the discovery of this, for us, new material (inox wire net with squares of 2×2 cm), inspired us and incentivized us to the creation of a whole new world in which we could conceive landscapes and sculptures, and in which also color gets an important place. we also love the fact that this furniture needs to be dressed up by the users with plaids, blankets, sheepskins…’hannes van severen of muller van severen
