‘duplex’ is the first collection developed by MUT together with the spanish company sancal. it consists of a range of side tables that reference the organic and modernist architecture of mies van der rohe and frank lloyd wright. simplicity and functionality are more than obvious in a design that, nonetheless, tries to actively involve the user in a game.

the tables can be combined with each other

the game starts in the very architecture of the tables which allows for the superposition of the elements thanks to the diversity of heights and is prolonged in the individual structure of each piece. there is a common element to all of them: the top tray. it is possible to detach it duplicating both the height and the functionality for it can be used either as a container, as a laptop support or in the event of a victory of laziness over culinary will, to eat a quick sandwich while watching tv.

movable, removable trays

their hybrid nature makes these tables a unique product. once again, MUT invites the user to take part in the design process because, in the end, it is them who decide on how to combine them. this is the reason why the top trays are optional and can be freely matched, as it happens with the colors thanks to the wide range of available dyes and lacquers. a nice tribute to those of us who got fed up of being told off with that frustrating ‘kids, don’t play on the table‘.
