‘ring stool’ by nao tamura for artek, original ‘stool 60′ seating design alvar alto

in celebration of 80 years of ‘stool 60’ by alvar aalto, japan-born new york-based designer nao tamura has developed ‘ring’, a graphic depiction of tree rings layered onto alvar’s design rounding out its geometric shape. developed for finnish furniture company artek, the notion behind the image presents a record of history, the spacing and weight of line of each halo telling a story, the intention being to evoke the bounty of nature as seen by the passage of 80 years. ‘ring’ is part of the design trust for public spaces auction event november 7th, 2012 which supports public spaces in new york city.
