nendo: disney's mickey mouse stool for cappellini

‘mickey ribbon stool’ ∅ 42 x 45/66 h

‘mickey ribbon stool’ designed by nendo is born out of a collaboration between cappellini and walt disney signature, disney’s first upscale adult lifestyle brand. with its circular shape, open design and flowing lines, the ribbon stool lends itself perfectly to the easily recognizable silhouette that peeks over its seat. the two versions features a series of high and low stools with backrest, produced from laser cuts and folded up sheet metals. the low stool has a polish red varnish, while the high stool is in a polish yellow varnish. these furniture pieces are produced in limited edition, with a total of 399 available of the low stool and 199 of the high stool.

‘mickey ribbon stool’ was first unveiled at milan design week 2010

  • why?

    mdl says:
  • hate it.

I’d like to know the waste ratio on this piece, given the legs were laser cut… say about 80-85%, Nendo/Disney you’re dreaming, this is capitalist gimmickey want at it’s worst. Since when has the credible essence of the design world starting subscribing to the immorality that is Disney.

dumb, dumb, and dumber. I’m sure that given the copious entries of Nendo’s work on Designboom and the mostly negative reactions by the general design community to his work, that it’s clearly a case of the Emperor and his new clothes.

p.s. what’s up with the dodgey welding work (curvy join – detail of backrest)? And this is associated with Cappellini…. I’m really starting to question the validity of the major design brands if this sought of stuff is picked up and held up as a benchmark in design.

    kg says:
  • well said KG

This is maybe worse than the fruit bowl effort.

This dude should slow down, do less and value the priviledged creative opportunity that his amazing clients give him.

    Knickles says:
  • totally agree – pretty piss poor

    karl says:
  • omg, shame shame, the stool by itself is nice, but adding mickey is such an design overkill

    at says:
  • other than the fact that you’re sticking your behind into mickey’s nose, that stool looks intensely uncomfortable says:
  • I would like to start a petition:
Designboom, please stop publishing every single insignificant thing coming from overactive Nendo…it makes me sad!
