abie abdillah of studiohiji is passionate about working with rattan – a material which, based on his indonesian roots, is easy to come by. produced for singaporean company for the common goods, the series is a collection of lightweight pieces that aim to both change existing perceptions and rekindle interest in the traditional material and its various possibilities. thanks to the handiwork of skilled craftsmen, abdillah was able to do away with customary bindings and rituals, with the design boasting exposed joinery and bold bursts of vibrant color. the series consists of chairs, coffee and side tables, all completed with a range of metal and fabric color palettes.

studiohiji presented their work at the 2015 edition of international furniture fair singapore (IFFS), asia’s premier sourcing platform and design-led exhibition. IFFS is a partner event of singapore design week and is held annually in conjunction with SingaPlural. see here for designboom’s full coverage of this year’s events.
