There’s something for everyone at New Designers

New Designers not only provides graduates with a crucial platform to showcase their creativity and the fruits of their labour from the last few years, but it also stands as a real destination for discovering inspiring new talent and ideas, offering an insightful glimpse into the future of design. Ever since its foundation in 1985, the annual showcase stands as the UK’s most innovative emerging design talent, giving over 3,000 graduates the opportunity to showcase their visionary ideas to industry professionals and the public every year. The event takes place over two weeks, with different disciplines highlighted in Week 1 and Week 2, spanning fashion, textiles, furniture, product design, illustration, and more. There’s something for everyone at New Designers, whether you’re a design enthusiast, a student, or a professional.

‘We’re thrilled to announce the return of graduates to New Designers for its 39th year. Our annual show presents graduates with a prime networking opportunity, connecting them with industry professionals who could become their future employers or collaborators,’ says Sally Bent, Event Director of New Designers.

ND SELECTS: spotlighting new talents

One of the highlights of New Designers is ND Selects, shining a light on design businesses founded within the last three years. Visitors to the show have the chance to purchase some of the unique pieces while discovering new creativity and innovative pieces. This carefully curated, shoppable space sees each exhibitor handpicked by curator Louisa Pacifico, and a committee of industry experts.

‘Simultaneously, for our trade visitors, our event acts as a melting pot, enabling them to immerse themselves in a diverse array of emerging creative talent from across the UK, potentially finding the next “Yinka Ilori.” Our show is more than just an exhibition; it serves as a fertile ground for future recruitment. We look forward to welcoming our visitors this summer!’ continues Sally Bent

Another highlight of New Designers every year is its extensive programme of talks and workshops designed to prepare graduates for future employment. ND Educates will return, offering visitors the opportunity to hear from leading brands, designers and industry experts as they share valuable insights into the latest trends and discuss prominent sector themes. Stay tuned for the 2024 programme – once again curated by one of the show’s alumni, Hannah Payne – which will be announced in due course.

Other key aspects of the show to look out for include ND Connects: a programme of portfolio reviews, exclusively available to the New Designers Class of 2024, where established brands provide graduates with one-to-one feedback for their portfolios, either in person or virtually. Additionally, ND Futures, offers guidance to 15-18-year-olds as part of the show’s Schools Days. This series of talks and workshops, also curated by Hannah Payne, enables design-inspired A-Level, GCSE and BTEC students to seek career and education advice about potential courses to pursue at a degree level.
