artist-lovers esther boller-andrews and zach andrews celebrated their marriage earlier this year. their bespoke evening turned close friends into heroes and their astoria apartment into an astro-anomaly. confused guests arrived at their apartment in new york city wearing hand-made dresses and coats, high-riding rugby shorts, star-crowns, pilot suits and helmets they received in the mail the week of the wedding — all meticulously designed by the bride. hand-illustrated invitations were completely customized for each guest in dreamy palettes hinting at the otherworldly ceremony ahead.

in the first room, guests found themselves in a celestial storm designed by esther and zach, burdened with the primordial task of finding the couple via a 4 x 6 foot board-game. a second board-game required guests to find, match and sort memories the duo faced during their times apart from each other. the bathroom featured an early 2000s collage of televisions streaming analogue video games and 8-bit song covers. dozens of lava lamps overflowed throughout the bedroom and a colorful assemblage of paint chips and LED lights turned an ordinary hallway into a vibrant and immersive landscape. zach and esther hung hundreds of clouds, taped thousands of paint chips to the walls and transformed each room of their queens apartment into a storybook scene.

dressed in a space suit designed by esther (a fashion designer), zach (a writer) painstakingly penned a 40-page script to chronicle their story and the evening’s events, which was narrated by the best man. it was on the subway to-and-from work that esther spent 9 months knitting more than 4 miles of mohair into her estonian lace dress — worn while carrying a tomato bouquet by okimoto — illustrated invitations and beaded swarovski crystals into her leggings.

the impassioned pair’s stellar spectacle became an otherworldly tribute to ‘the lost astronaut and his space pirate tomato bride’ — both on their wedding night and for light-years to come.
