nir neria unveils forma fabrica

Converging technology and craftsmanship, designer Nir Neria’s Forma Fabrica series showcases a series of porcelain vases, each uniquely crafted from the same modular and reusable fabric mould. Developed using 3D printing and computer design alongside sewing techniques, this porcelain slipcasting technique intertwines the tactile malleability of fabric with the structural rigidity of porcelain. The result is an exploration of the interplay of patterns, colors, and forms that preserve the essence of fabric while exploring the unexpected textures of the process.

an interplay of ceramics, textiles, and technology

Out of a passion for ceramics, textile, technology, and design, Nir Neria set out to study the interplay between the two seemingly distinct mediums of porcelain and fabric. Her development process began with researching and testing a wide range of textiles and mechanisms for casting, before refining the final technique of digitally designing 3D printed models of the mould required for the desired shape. The fabric and its 3D printed frame are modular, reusable and create a unique subtle form to every vessel casted, and each mould can be adapted and adjusted to allow different forms based on the designed contour. The designer also utilizes the fabric as a medium to transfer pigments and color porcelain in intricate processes.
