moscow-based digital and branding agency have redesigned the map of the city tram network for the russian capital. the existing system is 420 km in length and includes 47 routes, which are divided into four different city maps according to depot. they are also designed in a variety of styles, which creates difficulty for passengers with way finding. the new graphic identity combines the entire tram network into one easy to follow visual document that is integrated into the urban environment. the moskva river and the city underground are the main landmarks identified, and the flexible structure means it can be applied to several local ones as well.
the main map design includes the pattern of a tram pantograph
the color scheme used for the map identity

the color scheme has each of the 47 routes corresponding to a unique shade. the palette gradually changes, so that the addition or removal of a network won’t interfere the color identification system.

the lines are not set close to each other to make it easier to trace the route through complex junctions

the numbers of the routes are identified in large letters at each terminal

tables with the route numbers are also made from single colors
