design collective numen/for use has collaborated with british fashion designer anya hindmarch on the occasion of this year’s london fashion week. ‘the tube’, a bright blue structure created from nearly 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) of rope and 11,000 square metres of net, formed part of a temporary pop-up in a soho warehouse called ‘the weave project’.

the structure invited guests to revisit their childhood by climbing inside and explore the twisting structures. meandering structure. it took three days for numen/for use to complete ‘the tube’ and seven days to erect it. suspended from scaffolding, the oscillating artwork recreates the excitement of a children’s playground for adults, whilst offering a unique perspective on the building.

‘the tube’ ties in with the global relaunch of hindmarch‘s neeson bag collection, which features hand-woven leather bags that can be customised with initials, tassels and symbols. the collection provided the inspiration for the woven tunnels created by numen/for use – a trio of artists based between croatia, austria and germany – who installed a similar installation in cologne. the collective have also made others using adhesive tape and another structure comprising a 3D grid.

the weave project, which ran from 16 to 19 february to coincide with london fashion week, also included a themed cafe, plus a concept store stocking the collection. visitors could purchase the bags and have them personalised by on-site weavers, with hand-woven symbols, words and initials.
