after introducing outdoor and splash proof editions, the ‘ohm’ porcelain luminaire collection by swedish studio kauppi & kauppi continues to expand with ifö electric’s 2021 spring launch — an embrace of the classic retrofit bulb. the design introduces a large and bright transparent glass figure tailored for E27 light bulbs – for installations on walls, in ceilings and on tables.‘when we designed the new large clear glass silhouette, we envisioned an airy light fitting, exposing more of the porcelain — bringing out the best of the exquisite, glazed surfaces,’ kauppi & kauppi expresses. ‘a friendly, warm-glowing and natural living space companion.’

launching during the stockholm furniture & light fair 2021, the design by kauppi & kauppi for ifö electric celebrates porcelain as a material, and the century-long heritage of scandinavia’s only wet press porcelain producer. ‘our design contributes with soft shapes to the assortment, a quality which is not only a matter of visual aesthetics. what we mainly wanted to add was a sensory and tactile dimension, so that the advanced industrial production can be experienced by hand’, the designers explain. spreading a warm and welcoming light, the light fitting follows the overall program with versions for installations on facades, walls, ceilings and tables. meanwhile, the previously-launched siblings with opal shades, for a gently diffuse light distribution, also receives a new E27 lamp holder option.

the production is made with a long-term perspective in focus — the luminaires are designed and constructed in a way that enables all parts to be disassembled and replaced if necessary. if the light technology standards change in the future, new parts can be added. this means that the light fittings, together with the material’s own durability, have the conditions to achieve an exceptionally long lifecycle, potentially longer than many buildings. neither wind, water nor strong sunlight will change the glazed porcelain surface.
